We are looking for a Head of Abuse who will be able to systematically build the department’s operations, strengthen the team, and shift processes from a reactive mode to a highly proactive one.
The main task is to build a strong and effective Abuse department that not only responds to existing problems but also identifies potential abuse scenarios, vulnerabilities, and new types of violations in advance.
It is important to be able to look several steps ahead: analyze the market and competitive environment, track new mechanics and approaches, monitor our own resources, and identify potential risks before they turn into actual abuse cases.
Experience in Abuse, Domain Abuse, Brand Protection, Trust & Safety, Domain Security, or related fields.
Experience managing a team or building processes within an Abuse/Brand Protection function.
Deep understanding of DMCA, URS, UDRP, trademark complaints, ICANN complaints, and other mechanisms for handling violations.
Understanding of intellectual property legislation and practices, as well as domain disputes.
Good technical understanding of DNS, WHOIS, RDAP, hosting infrastructure, IPs, SSL certificates, and email headers.
Practical understanding of OSINT and tools that can be used to investigate abuse cases: WHOIS/RDAP services, MXToolbox, Spamhaus, VirusTotal, AbuseIPDB, Shodan, Censys, URLScan.io, Google Dorking, Maltego, and others.
Strong analytical thinking — it is important not only to respond to individual cases but also to identify patterns and find systematic solutions.
Experience automating operational processes or defining requirements for the development of internal tools.
English at B1+ level for communication with registrars, hosting providers, rights holders, and international organizations.
Experience working with high-risk / grey niches will be a significant advantage.
Experience working at a domain registrar or hosting provider.
Experience building an Abuse department from scratch or significantly restructuring an existing function.
Experience creating automated abuse monitoring and detection systems.
Experience in Brand Protection, Threat Intelligence, or Anti-Fraud.
Understanding of the specifics of working with a large number of domains and complex web infrastructure.
Build and optimize the Abuse department’s operations: processes, roles, areas of responsibility, SLAs, and priorities.
Manage a team of Abuse specialists, assign tasks, oversee results, and develop expertise within the team.
Shift the department’s operations from a predominantly reactive model to a proactive one.
Organize continuous monitoring of domains, websites, infrastructure, and other company assets.
Identify potential abuse vectors and new types of violations before they begin to be widely exploited.
Analyze the competitive landscape, new practices, tools, and scenarios in Abuse, Brand Protection, and Domain Security.
Explore new lawful tools and approaches to protect the business and the company’s intellectual property.
Automate routine processes: monitoring, information gathering, case triage, data preparation, and internal reporting.
Define which internal tools and automations need to be developed in collaboration with the technical team.
Build a metrics system to evaluate the effectiveness of the Abuse department.
Organize the process for handling DMCA, trademark complaints, URS, UDRP, ICANN complaints, and other types of complaints.
Oversee the quality of preparing and submitting complaints against infringers to protect the company’s intellectual property.
Build effective collaboration with domain registrars, hosting providers, abuse teams, and relevant legal organizations.
Develop and improve internal policies, procedures, and playbooks for handling different types of violations.
Analyze complex and non-standard abuse cases and determine the strategy for further action.
